Listening?
You and your child are about to begin a wonderful adventure in sound!
What is it all about?
The Budding Musician and its counterpart Are You Listening? are produced for parents and children to work through together. It has been used successfully with ages 4-8. There are 20 lessons in each volume. Each lesson lasts about 10 minutes. Just as a child and parent do pre-reading activities together, parent and child work together in these two volumes to develop music pre-reading skills.
This course was developed for beginning piano students but can be used with children who are not studying any instrument. Parents need no musical skill or training to be successful. If your child is not studying piano, ignore those references to the piano. If your child is studying a stringed instrument (or any other instrument), apply the references to piano, to the child’s instrument.
Studies show that students who have success at learning to play an instrument are those whose teachers and parents were more concerned with the child having fun in the beginning stages, rather than trying to mold the student into a polished performer.
Are you ready to have fun?! These two volumes will give you an opportunity to giggle, play, clap, laugh, and sing with your child. As long as you and your child are having fun and are consistent in moving through the lessons (about one each week), you will notice musical wonderful growth and development.

Some tips to succeed
You are listening to these recordings with thousands of other children, teachers, and parents in many parts of the world. Some children listen with their parents. Others listen with a teacher. Some are in schools and music studios. Others are at home or traveling in the car. Some children/parents are just beginning to study music and this is their first experience. Others are learning to play piano, the violin, or some other instrument.
Whatever your situation, with a great attitude and a desire to help a child, you can have a wonderful time and be successful.
